I am a teacher with 8 years classroom and 1:1 teaching experience. I am a qualified ESOL teacher, I have a UK teaching qualification and a degree in Politics. I have taught in the UK and abroad; my students have been adults, professionals, high school students and vocational and further education students. I have experience teaching a variety of subjects, such as English language and Literature, History, Spanish, Well-Being and Citizenship, Employability and Psychology. I am passionate about teaching, and thoroughly enjoy every aspect of my job. As a teacher my style is student centred and I actively encourage students to take ownership of their learning experience. It is important that the student has a positive learning experience. My classes are focused, relevant, creative, interesting and fun; ensuring all my students can and will progress, but also, develop and gain confidence. In my experience, students progress when they feel the teaching material is relevant to them and their lives, they understand the work, they are engaged and invested in their learning and are challenged to develop and encouraged to progress. I also understand what it is like to undertake learning as an adult; when I lived in Spain, I learned Spanish. This was difficult for me and I often felt discouraged, frustrated and incapable. I therefore understand that learning something new can be nerve wracking, but this is sometimes about how confident a student feels in a class and with their tutor, rather than the difficulty of the actual work. I like to put my students at ease by being professional, but also by adopting a positive, supportive and non-judgmental attitude. I am also an affable person who enjoys working with new people and helping them to learn. More about me – I enjoy all aspects of art, design and creativity. I am an artist and I make jewellery. I love to read and especially enjoy books about history, psychology, politics, sociology, crime and horror. I like to travel, to cook, to sing and to dance, I like going to music concerts, the cinema and the theatre. I look forward to becoming your teacher and mentor! If you have any questions regarding teaching and learning with me, please email me first.
